Every year, schools across Canada, and around the world, hold Terry Fox Runs, in honour of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope and to continue his dream to find a cure for cancer. For more than a decade, Davidson School, a K-12 school with less than 400 students in Sun West School Division, has been among the top-fundraising schools in Saskatchewan and frequently raises more money than any other school in the province.

Meaghan Greene, a Davidson School teacher, and long-time organizer of the Terry Fox Run stated: “our community here understands what Terry stood for. “Sloane Willner a Grade 9 student at Davidson School stated after running this year’s event: “Running with friends—this is for everyone battling cancer.” Joe Stone, a Grade 10 student and another Run participant, added, “We’re doing this because we believe in hope and healing.” Stone was among several students in his Leadership 10 class who jury-rigged an artificial leg and attempted to duplicate the conditions faced by Terry Fox, to gain greater appreciation for the challenges Terry Fox faced.

The annual Run at Davidson isn’t just a fundraiser; it’s a demonstration of community spirit. On run-day, hallways fill with red “Terry Fox Run” T-shirts, supportive cheers echo out across the schoolyard, and students come together with a shared purpose. Greene explained that the number of community members who come out to participate in the run increases every year. “It’s not just the money,” said Greene. “It’s about teaching our students empathy, perseverance, and community.” Because of efforts like these, since the first Terry Fox Run in 1981, more than $900 million has been raised to aid in the battle against cancer.

Davidson School’s 2025 effort significantly exceeded even its previous year’s record-breaking total. The students, staff, and community of Davidson School raised $22,867, a powerful reminder that hope, compassion, and community action continue to define Terry Fox’s legacy.
