“Public education has never just been my career — it’s been my calling, my community, and my lifelong commitment to ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed.”
Linda Mattock brings deep experience, thoughtful leadership, and a lifelong commitment to public education to her role as Chair of Public Schools of Saskatchewan.
With a 35-year career in education, Linda has served Saskatchewan students and communities in a wide range of roles, including classroom teacher, vice-principal, principal, and Superintendent of the Horizon School Division. She has been a school board trustee for nine years and currently serves as Chair of the Horizon School Board.
Linda is now serving her second term as Chair of Public Schools of Saskatchewan. She put her name forward for this leadership role out of a strong belief in public education and the values it represents. As Chair, she works to elevate the profile of public education and advocate for its essential role in building strong, inclusive communities across the province.
“Sustainable, appropriate funding and respect for local context are essential if public education is to meet the diverse needs of communities across Saskatchewan.”
Her vision for public education is grounded in the need for appropriate and sustainable funding that supports the success of all students. Linda emphasizes that Saskatchewan’s public school divisions are diverse, and effective decision-making must recognize that a one-size-fits-all approach does not meet every community’s needs. She also believes that inviting and valuing public voice is critical to shaping responsive, equitable programs and policies.
A key challenge Linda identifies is the erosion of local voice in education decision-making.
“Trustees are the vital link between communities and decision-makers, ensuring local voices help shape the policies that affect our students and schools.”
She views trusteeship as essential to maintaining a strong connection between communities and those who shape education policy, ensuring grassroots perspectives inform decisions that directly affect students and schools.
Raised on a farm in rural Saskatchewan and educated in a small community school, Linda knew from an early age that education would be her life’s work.
“Raised in rural Saskatchewan and educated in a small community school, I learned early that public education is about belonging, opportunity, and community.”
That early passion continues to guide her leadership today. Linda is grateful for the opportunity to represent 16 public school boards and looks forward to continued collaboration. She believes strongly that shared leadership and ongoing learning are key to strengthening public education for the benefit of all students.
