Jan Morrison currently serves as a trustee with Good Spirit School Division, a role she has held since 2016. Her connection to public education began as a parent and community member, motivated by a desire to be actively involved in decisions affecting her daughter’s education. Her seven years of service on a School Community Council, combined with her work in the public service sector, have shaped her strong commitment to inclusive, high-quality public education for all students.

Jan put her name forward to serve as Second Vice Chair of the Public Section because she was excited about the opportunity to work alongside fellow trustees and leadership to help guide collective advocacy efforts across Saskatchewan. She is particularly motivated by the chance to collaborate with the executive to strengthen the voice of publicly funded school boards and advance shared priorities.

Jan’s vision for public education is one that is strong, well-funded, accessible, and equitable for every student in Saskatchewan. She believes the Public Schools of Saskatchewan plays a critical role in championing the importance of keeping public funds in public schools, strengthening mental-health supports, supporting inclusive classrooms, and reinforcing strong local governance.

She identifies one of the biggest challenges facing public education as the erosion of funding due to public dollars being directed to private and independent schools. This displacement of resources places increasing pressure on public schools as they respond to rising student needs, inflation, and growing classroom complexity. At the same time, Jan sees opportunity in united advocacy, stronger community engagement, and evidence-based policy development that prioritizes student success.

Outside of her governance work, Jan is actively involved in her community of Yorkton through a variety of volunteer activities, particularly those involving children and animals. She draws inspiration from seeing her daughter thrive in the public education system and believes those same opportunities should be available to every student in Saskatchewan.

Jan extends her thanks to the 16 public school boards for their commitment, collaboration, and unwavering focus on students. In the year ahead, she looks forward to supporting clear advocacy, strengthening partnerships, and advancing decisions that reflect the needs of every learner served by Saskatchewan’s public schools.
