This year marks Horizon's 12th annual Christmas Hamper Project--a heartfelt tradition that brings warmth and support to families during the holiday season.
This year, the project supported 147 families and 368 children across the division, all made possible by the extraordinary generosity of our students, staff, families, community members, and local partners.
"To everyone who donated, volunteered, or helped with Horizon's Christmas Hamper Project in any way--thank you. Your support has brought hope, comfort, and joy to families throughout the division this holiday season," said Linda Mattock, Horizon's Board Chair.
Thanks to the many donations received, every child receives a wrapped gift, a book, a treat, and warm winter clothing such as mitts, scarves, and toques. Each family also receives a grocery gift certificate to help with holiday meals. In-kind gifts this year included handmade quilts, children's vitamins, hygiene products like toothbrushes and toothpaste, as well as bags of fresh potatoes and farm eggs.
The spirit of giving goes far beyond financial support. Students and school communities helped by decorating boxes and wrapping gifts, spreading holiday cheer through their creativity and care. Volunteers from BHP, RBC, and MNP also gave their time, joining Horizon staff to wrap and assemble the hampers. It was a true team effort.
A full list of donors can be found on Horizon's website, but even that cannot capture the full generosity shown by everyone involved. The kindness, time, and thoughtfulness shared through this project have made a meaningful difference for many. See more at: horizonsd.ca/Christmas/.
