2026 Public Schools of Saskatchewan Announces Student Citizenship Award Winners

Public Schools of Saskatchewan is proud to announce the 2026 Student Citizenship Award winners, recognizing six outstanding student groups that have demonstrated exceptional leadership, compassion, and community spirit. The awards celebrate projects undertaken by public school student groups and classrooms across Saskatchewan that make a meaningful difference within their schools and communities. Three $1,000 awards are presented annually in the Grades 1–8 category, and three $1,000 awards are presented in the Grades 9–12 category.
“We are incredibly proud to recognize these remarkable students and the staff who support and encourage their efforts,” said Cathy Cornet, Vice Chair of Public Schools of Saskatchewan and Chair of the Student Citizenship Awards Committee.“ These projects demonstrate the important role public education plays in helping young people develop compassion, leadership, responsibility, democratic understanding, and a commitment to improving their communities.”
Cornet noted that this year’s submissions once again highlighted the creativity, empathy, environmental leadership, and community-mindedness of students throughout Saskatchewan.
Meet the 2026 Winners
Grades 1 - 8 Category
Drake School | Horizon School Division
Project: Green Team Video
The Drake School Green Team is a student-led initiative involving students from multiple grade levels who work together on projects focused on environmental stewardship, inclusion, leadership, and community service.
Hudson Bay Community School | North East School Division
Project: Young Hearts, Wise Minds
This Grade 3 class developed an ongoing partnership with seniors in their local long-term care community through regular visits and relationship-building activities.
Three Lakes School | Horizon School Division
Project: Outdoor Education Growth
Students at Three Lakes School are transforming their outdoor space into a year-round “Backyard Learning Commons” that promotes environmental stewardship, sustainability, and hands-on learning.
Grades 9 - 12 Category
Campbell Collegiate | Regina Public Schools
Project: Stargivers Initiative
The Stargivers Initiative is a student-led non-profit organization focused on supporting Regina’s vulnerable and homeless community through volunteerism, outreach, fundraising, and acts of service.
Walter Murray Collegiate | Saskatoon Public Schools
Project: Award Winning Debate Club
Walter Murray Collegiate’s Debate Club has earned national recognition while fostering democratic engagement, respectful dialogue, critical thinking, and student leadership.
Bedford Road Collegiate | Saskatoon Public Schools
Project: Waskawiwin Land-Based Education
The Waskawiwin Land-Based Education program engages students in experiences that foster deep connections to land, culture, community, and environmental stewardship.
Why These Awards Matter
These award recipients demonstrate the very best of public education in action,” said Lynn Little, Executive Director of Public Schools of Saskatchewan. “Through leadership, service, innovation, and a commitment to others, these students are making a meaningful difference in their schools and communities while inspiring those around them.
Each winning group receives $1,000 to further their initiatives, whether expanding existing projects or launching new ones.
