Patty Brady, Learning Superintendent at Prairie Valley School Division, received the 'As Long as the Sun Shines' literacy award from the Saskatchewan Literacy Network. Presented to her by Her Honour, the Honourable Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, Bernadette McIntyre at the Saskatchewan Literacy Awards on June 6, 2026.
The Award recognizes how we work together to advance literacy in ways that respect and honour our Treaty relationships and our connection to the lands around us. Patty is recognized for her leadership in creating literacy experiences that are grounded in relationships, community, and respect for the land.
Through her vision, Camp Books has grown from a small initiative into a deeply collaborative program that brings together students, families, educators, and community partners. What makes this work stand out is not only what students learn, but how they experience learning: sitting in tents, sharing stories, and seeing themselves reflected in books that honour Indigenous languages, cultures, and ways of knowing.
Colleagues describe the energy and joy that surrounds this work; how students look forward to it each year, and how it has become "more than just a program - it is a celebration of literacy, culture, and student voice."
Patty's leadership reflects a belief that literacy is about connection - to each other, to stories, and to the land. Her work brings people together in ways that last far beyond the classroom.
